We’ve only been living in the Kelowna area for a few days and we’ve already hit the road for a day trip! One of the reasons we wanted to move to the area was for all the things you can do outdoors year round. After spending many summers in Kelowna we made the decision this year to relocate our family. We have only ever visited the area in the summer so we are excited to explore the other seasons as well while living here!

On the top of my list this fall was apple picking with the kids, it’s something we never had the opportunity to do in Edmonton. Davison Orchards is famous for their apples, and so much more! We visit every summer to pick up a variety of baking, sauces and produce items. The kids also love to explore the grounds and feed the animals.

Davison Orchards is a MUST visit in the fall. The setting is picture perfect and the weather is pretty great too! Be sure to plan ahead for your visit with the U-Pick Apple Tour calendar. We were able to pick Royal Gala + Aurora apples during our visit in September!

The orchard is located at 3111 Davison Road in Vernon BC which is about a 45 minute drive from the Kelowna region. Once you arrive you can head to the ticket booth at the market to buy your apple picking bag. The cost is $15 per adult (13 and over) which includes a 10lb bag of apples and the Johnny Popper Tour on the tractor train. Kids can enjoy an Apple Tour for $8 which includes a 2lb bag of apples and the Johnny Popper Ticket. If you are going as a family like we did, you can purchase one apple picking bag and just pay for the Johnny Popper Tour for the rest of the family. Each tractor train ticket comes with one apple that you can pick from the tree yourself. The train runs every 30 minutes, you can expect to wait in line on the weekends as it’s a busy attraction for families!

Did you know there is a certain way you should pick an apple from the tree? Our Johnny Popper Tour guide showed us that you should point the bottom of the apple up to the sky before you pull it from the tree. That way you don’t damage the apple or the tree when picking!

With so many things to see and do, you should plan to spend a couple hours visiting Davison Orchards! The kids will love feeding the animals and playing in the large playground area. Be sure to bring some quarters with you to get the feed for the animals from the vending machine!

The Farmhouse Cafe is a great place to enjoy lunch or coffee while at Davison Orchards. The menu changes throughout the year depending on what’s in season on their farm. We love the fresh baked goods made in house and the fresh apple juice slurpees available but have also enjoyed lunch there as well!

Every visit we stock up on the house made salad dressings, salsas, jams and sauces at their retail store. They have so many amazing products in store! You can also shop online here.

If you are looking for pumpkins in the Okanagan, Davison Orchards is a must visit! Pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes here, from small to large, traditional orange to blue or white, they have an amazing variety available. I’ve never seen so many different types of pumpkins and can’t wait to decorate our porch for fall with the fresh pumpkins available!

Davison Orchards has so many great backdrops for family photos! At this time of year you can take photos in the apple orchards while on the tour or capture some photos with the pumpkins scattered all over the grounds. Grab and ice cream or frozen coffee while you explore the grounds to scope out the best places to take photos. We have some great family photos taken here over the years including the famous Davison Orchards giant red anorak chair!
