Tis the season for school bake sales! I wanted to share one of my favourite recipes to make with the kids, it’s quick, easy and always a hit with the littles! It’s also great recipe for those little helpers in the kitchen. We’ve done them for birthday parties, bbq’s and more, but I love them for bake sales because they are easy to pack up and aren’t messy to handle.
Rice Krispie Monsters
What you will need:
- Colored chocolate (you can choose as many colors as you like)
- Rice Krispie squares (I use store bought as they stay fresh longer)
- Candy eyes
- Sticks (optional)
Instructions:
- Open all the Rice Krispie squares and the candy eyes (you have to work fast with chocolate so do this step first)
- If you are using sticks add them next
- Lay out parchment paper for them to dry on
- Using a double boiler (or a metal bowl over boiling water) add the chocolate and melt. (temp should be medium-low so you don’t burn the chocolate)
- If you are making a smaller batch you can always microwave chocolate (be sure to stir every 15-30 seconds to keep it from burning)
- Dip the monsters in the chocolate or spread chocolate on with a spatula
- Lay out on the parchment paper and add the eyes immediately so they will stick
- Let cool 30 min minimum
- Package up and send them off to the bake sale
We have been making this recipe for years and it is basically foolproof. It takes 30 min or less to whip these up (minus the cooling time) and it makes for easy clean up too. Happy baking!
