Our family loves to travel, but we don’t always have the time to leave the city. With the kids both active in dance and hockey we decided to take a staycation at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Edmonton for a little weekend getaway! It’s nice to take a break from our busy lives every so often, we love staycations for this reason!
We were invited to check out one of the newest hotels in downtown Edmonton which is located at 9576 Jasper Ave. They offer spacious guest rooms and warm cookies when you check in. For all the years I used to travel with work I often chose to stay at Hilton hotels, and the DoubleTree has always been my favourite in the brand. I’ve stayed at their locations all over North America!
Accommodations
We were excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early this year since our kiddo is in a hockey tournament on the actual day. The hotel prepared all the romantic touches for us from champagne and strawberries to rose pedals scattered throughout the room. We loved the swan towels as well! Our room was on the 9th floor with sweeping views of downtown Edmonton and the river valley. Our king suite was 1100 sf and included a living room, full kitchen and dining area as well as a large bedroom and bathroom. The room was AMAZING and so was the service. We appreciate when a hotel goes over and above with their service and the DoubleTree staff did just that. We felt welcomed from the moment we checked in!
For the first time ever the kids had their own hotel room, and absolutely LOVED it! They were spoiled with a dessert tray and drinks when we checked in. They couldn’t even wait for dinner and gobbled it up right away! The kids stayed in a spacious queen room with 2 beds, a couch (that was also a sofa bed) and large bathroom. We were all impressed with how large their room was!
Dining at the Hotel
We headed to Gallery Lounge & Bar for dinner located on the second floor of the hotel. The space is artfully designed with plenty of seating areas between tables and couches. We were immediately impressed with the menu that offered a good variety of options including soup, salad, appetizers, burgers and entrees. They also cater to children with a kids menu that had all their favourites including mac and cheese, chicken fingers and pizza!
We tried the margarita pizza, linguine with prawns, steak sandwich, cheeseburger, wings and garlic fries for dinner and enjoyed them all. After a long work week it was great to be able to sit and have a drink and dinner right in the hotel with the kids! They also have tv’s for watching sports and a computer area if you need to get some work done.
For breakfast they offer an amazing buffet that has a variety of hot and cold selections including;
- fresh juice and coffee
- cereal
- pastries
- steel cut oatmeal with a selection of toppings
- hot items including bacon, eggs, sausages and potatoes
- waffle station
- yogurt
- fruit
- cheese
- a toast station
Our family loves going to a breakfast buffet, we always love the option of having a little bit of everything! Quinn loved making her own waffle and Logan enjoyed all the options for toast. What can I say, the kids love their carbs! Denny enjoyed the hot breakfast items and I made some steel cut oats with toast. The breakfast buffet is reasonably priced at $19.95 per person with a great variety of options available. I highly recommend getting the breakfast when staying at this hotel property.
DoubleTree Amenities
The DoubleTree Hotel Downtown Edmonton offers some great amenities including a gym with state of the art equipment as well as a 29 person hot tub! We enjoyed a workout in the morning followed by a soak in the hot tub with the kids. The gym had all brand new equipment including treadmills that you can play cards on the screen while you work out. I thought it was a great distraction and I was done my workout in no time!
We were totally impressed by the gym, it was a great size for a hotel property and offered everything you would need to do a complete workout while staying here.
Bandit loves to come everywhere with us so it was great that we could bring him along! Our pup was welcomed at check in and enjoyed his stay at the hotel as well. There was a park across the street from the hotel to walk him in when he needed to go to the bathroom. They also give you a sign for the door to let staff and guests know that there is a dog in the room.
If you are bringing a vehicle to the hotel they offer heated underground parking when staying here. Another great perk with our cold Alberta winters!
We stayed there, I was so nice..well we would love to win for our anniversary it’s on valintines day . Save us a few bucks to do a little extra:) fingers crossed .🤞🤞🤞
