Since I was little we have had an annual tradition of baking sugar cookies and decorating them. I always remember it being one of my favourite things to do at this time of year so I wanted to carry on the tradition with my own kids

Last year I found some adorable cookie cutters from a locally owned company called Sweet Social. She has some really unique ones I haven’t seen in stores, one of my favourites is the ugly Christmas sweater! She also offers cookie decorating classes which I have taken and loved! I learned lots of tips and tricks!

We pick up our cookie dough at Simply Supper every year. For $8 you get a roll of frozen dough that is all ready to roll out! I love how simple this makes my life and it cuts down on the amount of mess we have to clean up afterwards! We whip up some icing (icing sugar, margarine, vanilla and a splash of milk), add some colours, grab the sprinkles and start decorating!

The more sprinkles and colours, the better! One trick I have learned from cookie decorating classes is to skip the gel food colouring and get the liquid instead (available at Michaels). The colour is more consistent and it doesn’t harden when stored. A little cookie decorating and a whole lot of icing consumed and we have our cookies all ready for Santa!
