We’re gearing up for summer at our house which means lots of bike rides with the kids! I love that we can ride bikes as a family and explore our neighbourhood and beyond. We even take Bandit our pup with us on our adventures! The kids love riding their bikes and we started them early on by putting them through Pedalheads bike camp. They have learned everything from riding on two wheels to gaining confidence to bike on their own without a parent helping. We are gearing up to put our youngest through Pedalheads again this year so we stopped by to visit our friends at Cranky’s Bike Shop to get Quinn fitted for a new helmet!
Cranky’s recently opened a new location by us in Riverbend Square so we stopped by to check out the new store! Emma was beyond helpful in helping us with helmets for our 7 year old, she explained in great detail the differences in the helmets they carried. I honestly didn’t even know there were so many things to know about helmets! They have a great selection in store for kids and adults. Quinn had a hard time choosing which one to go with! I’m sharing a few different styles my daughter tried on in store and what makes each of them a great option but first some key points when helmet shopping for kids.
There are 3 key points to be aware of when purchasing a helmet for kids.
- Sizing – the helmet must rest in the middle of the forehead for maximum safety and comfort
- Straps – once adjusted, the straps should be right under the ear lobes
- Fit – the chin strap, when adjusted must not be too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers between the chin strap and the chin
