Travel looks a whole lot different this year but that doesn’t mean we can’t travel safely. My husband and I recently moved to Kelowna and both of us need to travel back and forth to Edmonton for work commitments. We are thankful to both have jobs that allow us to work remotely but there are times we need to be in Edmonton for our clients and meetings. We packed our bags and headed to the JW Marriott Ice District for the week and wanted to share our experience with you!
Perks and Amenities
The JW Marriott Ice District is open for business and ready to make your stay more comfortable when you book your travel in advance. Check in is a breeze with the Marriott Bonvoy app. Denny and I tend to stick with Marriott properties when we travel so we can collect the points. This allows us to use our points we’ve earned for free hotel stays when we travel with our family!
We are able to keep track of the points on our phone, check in and out on the app, and book our hotel stays with the touch of a finger. We appreciate the Mobile Key feature that allows us to go keyless and unlock our guest room from our phones during the stay. This feature is available from your iPhone, Android or Apple Watch when you opt in on the app or at the front desk.
One of our favourite perks with many Marriott properties is having access to their Executive Lounge. When you achieve a certain status based on the amount of stays at their wide range of properties, you get this extra perk which we have always enjoyed. We love the Executive Lounge at the JW Marriott Ice District. They offer snacks and drinks for guests plus sweeping views of downtown Edmonton in a warm inviting atmosphere. It’s nice to have this lounge to work in during our stay.
We stayed in the King suite this trip which offered plenty of room for Denny and I to relax and get some work done. Our suite had a separate bedroom, a family room with a table to work at and a large bathroom with walk in shower. We love how spacious the suites are at the JW Marriott Ice District, they also offer great views of downtown Edmonton!
One of the options when checking in, is you can order a plant to care for from their In-room Plant Menu. They offered 8 different options to choose from and shared the benefits of each at the front desk when you check in. Just an extra perk to help you feel more at home. We loved having a snake plant in our room!
Relax During your Stay at JW Marriott Ice District
Kick your feet up and relax while you work at the JW Marriott Ice District. They have plenty of health and safety protocols in place to make your stay more comfortable including:
- Staff are required to wear masks at all times
- Masks are required to be worn by all guests in common areas of the hotel
- Hand sanitizer is available throughout the hotel including common areas, the lobby, check in desk and elevators
- Optional housekeeping available for guests
- No mini bar items are available
- Signage to remind guests that elevators can only be occupied by a family or three individual guests
- Valet parking is available and the staff sanitizes high touch points before you get into your vehicle
- Dedicated staff to serve you snacks and food in the Executive Lounge so food items are only handled by them
You can read more about their commitment to your health and safety during your stay here. Denny and I felt relaxed and comfortable during our stay in Edmonton. We spent most of our time working at the hotel in the Executive Lounge which was perfect for two people who work remotely. We were satisfied with the health and safety protocols in place at this property. Thank you to the JW Marriott Ice District for inviting us to stay at your hotel in Edmonton!
I love that Edmonton has four seasons with lots of fun activities to do all year round!

Love the people . Kind and friendly
I love your blog & absolutely love the JW! My husband and I stayed last year for a datenight in December 2019. We went to Braven for dinner followed by Alchemy for drinks. It’s my favourite place in the city to go, can go for a lovely dinner and drinks at the best lounges & restaurants and don’t even have to leave the building! They have so many lovely amenities. We are in need of date! We haven’t had a date without our children since before Covid 19 🤪.
Cheers & Happy Holidays!
Thank you for doing your 12 day of giveaways, lovely to see that happening this season.

Looks like a good property. Loved Edmonton and their river valley
What do I love best about Edmonton-the river valley of course
I miss the River Valley so much it’s so stunning
The keyless entry is a selling feature. Even when we can put covid behind us this is the direction of the future. The amenities within this property and steps away are ideal. State of the art fitness facility, pool, dining and location – OH MY! Not to mention the peace of mind knowing that Marriott has high expectations regarding health and safety. I would sleep soundly knowing they’ve done their due diligence to ensure both guests and staff are safe.
What I love the most about Edmonton is the skyline at night, how it reflects off the water as you drive downhill into the downtown area. It’s so pretty to overlook this metropolitan while still being surrounded by nature. Edmonton maintains a huge amount of greenspace, actually the largest expanse of urban parkland in Canada. It’s great living in a city where there’s a balance of city and nature!
I immigrated to Canada almost 20 years ago and the PEOPLE of Edmonton are simply WARM even in the bitter cold winters! Also love the wide, big prairie skies and the endless parks! Also love the Farmer’s markets and the restaurant scene. Love the history and stories behind the buildings of Edmonton. And of course the libraries! And I can’t forget the Art & Culture of YEG.
Such a gorgeous city scape, and such a boujee upscale patio!!!
My favourite place to have Christmas drinks is the JW lobby lounge! People watching and delicious drinks equal a perfect night!
I love Edmonton! So much to see and do, even during COVID! Love the river valley, the parks, the boutiques and restaurants on 124th and whyte ave! And the bakeries!!
The cocktails at Alchemy are spectacular. So creative! That’s the best part of going to a hockey game – stopping there. Until Covid is over, we will meet again, Alchemy!
My favourite part about Edmonton is all of the amazing restaurants (and food festivals when that is a thing again!)
My favorite part of Edmonton is all the festivals!! Honestly there is something going on every weekend. Things have been different this year but I look forward to more festivals in the future.

I love this post! My favourite things about Edmonton are our rich arts scene and amazing cafes. The artists in our city are so talented. From musicals to dance shows to open mic nights, there is no shortage of incredible performances to take in and support. Can’t wait to go back to seeing local concerts at the star lite room! Our many local cafes also hold a special place in my heart. My personal favourites are cafe mosaic and KB&Co. but there are many other cafes that I frequent a lot as well!
I love the ease of getting around Edmonton and discovering interesting areas in the city. The JW Marriott allows a person to spend the night and attend events at Rogers Place without walking outside.

The JW Marriott is such an incredible addition to our city! Fave things about Edmonton: our River Valley and entrepreneurial spirit.
I love the people in Edmonton. It’s almost like a small town in a big city. You always feel at home.
My very favorite thing about Edmonton is that my newly rediscovered cousin (we lost contact for almost 30 years!) lives nearby. I would love to reconnect in person and also, bring my 22 year old granddaughter to meet her and see the glorious country west of us!
I love all the parks and green spaces.
Edmonton brings up some good reasons to keep visiting over and over again. The year-round wonderful weather is a big factor, with longer summers and milder winters compared to other Canadian cities. This allows us more time to explore the best that the Albertan capital offers, including the huge line-up of festivals and ofcourse STAYCATION at JW Marriot Edmonton Ice District!! 🙏
