We’ve been keeping busy the last couple of months while we renovate our home in Kelowna BC. We lucked out to find a home that recently had some updates, but we still had so many things we wanted to to change to make it our own. Our home was built in 2007 when everyone wanted warm dark colours on the walls, cabinets and floors. We found a photo online of what our home originally looked like and couldn’t believe the transformation it has gone through!

We ended up purchasing the home right after the kitchen was painted white, the countertops had been changed to granite, and the floors replaced from dark to light but we still had so much more we wanted to do including changing the lights throughout the house. When we renovated our last home in Edmonton one of the biggest transformations came from updating our lighting throughout the house. It’s amazing how a light fixture can completely transform a room! We LOVED the product selection and customer service at Park Lighting in Edmonton so we decided to shop there again.

Park Lighting

Park Lighting has an easy to navigate website with thousands of lights to choose from. You can shop from the comfort of your own home and choose either curbside pick-up or shipping is also available. If you are local to Edmonton they also have a 31,000 square foot showroom on 170th street. If southern Alberta is where you call home, Park Lighting & Furniture has a sister store in Calgary called Cartwright Lighting & Furniture that carries the same fabulous items at great prices

Whether you are a customer like me, a homebuilder, designer, contractor, or electrician, they have the knowledge and products available for your next home project. What I also love is that they have something available for every price point and budget at both of their stores. It was easy for us to order online from Park Lighting and have our lights shipped to Kelowna BC. The process was quick and painless and the lights arrived in no time!

Modern Farmhouse Style

When we started this renovation project we pulled inspiration from the Modern Farmhouse Style. It is a combination of contemporary design with cozy farm house aesthetic. I love the warmth and simplicity of this design trend that uses natural textures, industrial looking finishes, and contrasting design. One of my favourite features I pulled from this style is black accents that we incorporated through our home. We changed out the tap and handles in the kitchen as well as door handles and hooks at our front door to black. We then updated all of the light fixtures to compliment this design trend!

Our front entryway was the first transformation when we moved into our home. The first thing on our list was to update the common builder spec style light fixture at our front door! We went with this beautiful Pendant 24″ in our entryway and wow what a difference it made! This light is a statement piece with its cage style black metal cover with chrome accents. We changed the bulbs to an edison style for a more modern look. Park lighting has a large selection of bulbs to choose from as well! This pendant light includes an adjustable rod so you can hang it at the right height for your space.

We spray painted our closet door handles black and used black hooks in our entryway as accents for our our Modern Farmhouse style. We love how the black of the pendant light now pops in this space with the accents.

Our kitchen recently had a huge overhaul taking it from the dark wood of the early 2000’s to a brighter updated white. We can’t take credit for this as the previous home owners painted the cabinets and changed out the counters. The number one item on my list when looking at homes was a white kitchen so we were thrilled when we found this home!

We have further updated the kitchen by changing out the handles and tap to matte black and we updated the light fixture over our dining table to a new more modern style. The Pendant 27″ from Park Lighting has become the focal point of our kitchen with its modern design and stand out style. This light is adjustable which completely changes the look of it depending how you position the arms. I love how much this light has updated the look of our kitchen and it pairs well with the existing pendant lights that were already over our island.

Our new home is a walk out bungalow with plenty of natural lighting but we found our hallway downstairs to be quite dark that leads to the bedrooms and bathroom. By changing out the two lights on the wall we have brightened up the space tremendously! We love the Sambre Sconces ! Because they are open, they allow for more light to shine through which is exactly what we needed. We were able to continue with the Modern Farmhouse style with the sconces having the black finish and long edison style bulb.

The bathrooms in our home were also recently updated with new granite counter tops, paint and white cabinets. We wanted to update the lights when we moved in to modernize the look of our bathrooms throughout the house. We started with the ensuite with intentions of installing the same lights in all 3 bathrooms but when the light was removed we realized the electrical wasn’t in the right spot! Park Lighting was great about exchanging the two ensuite lights so we could find something that had a long plate on the back to accommodate our electrical.

We ended up with the Hampton 3 Light Vanity which we chose in the bronze finish. They had a bunch of options for shades available so we went with a clear speckled glass and edison style bulb for a more modern look. We couldn’t believe how much brighter our bathroom became once we installed these lights! It’s so much better for putting on make up since our bathroom window is frosted and doesn’t bring in much for natural light.

For the other two bathrooms we ended up choosing a 4 bulb Vanity Light that had a mixed metal finish.  The black brings out the Modern Farmhouse style I was looking for and the brushed silver compliments the taps and towel bars that were already in the bathroom in the satin nickel finish. I have been loving the mixed metal trend so this light was a great find! It works well with different types of finishes throughout our home.
