Our family loves to travel, even if it’s just a weekend away. When the opportunity came to head down to Calgary for a Staycation Getaway at The Westin Calgary, we jumped at the opportunity. For many years Denny and I lived in Calgary and fell in love with this city. We come back to visit every opportunity we get because there is so much to see and do, especially with kids!
We haven’t stayed in a hotel since the beginning of March so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. So much has changed in the world since then and it’s been interesting to watch how businesses have pivoted to adapt to the new normal. The hotel industry was hit hard, but thankfully they are open again for business. Travelling looks a lot different these days, but with many health and safety protocols in place we felt it was safe to visit. Be sure to check out the local travel advisories before booking a hotel.
The Westin Calgary has implemented many new health and safety protocols for its guests since reopening. Some of the protocols in place include:
- Masks required to be worn by guests in all common areas of the hotel
- Staff required to wear masks while interacting with guests
- Social distancing stickers in the lobby area at check in
- Hand sanitizer stations located throughout the hotel by the elevators and front desk
- Signs to remind guests that elevators can be occupied by a family or two individual guests only
- No mini bar items in the rooms but vending machines available
- Room service did not enter our room for cleaning during our stay
- Check in desk was cleaned between each guest and plexiglass was in place for the staff
- Valet service and bell service were not available at this location during our stay
Family Getaway at The Westin Calgary
Enjoy a Staycation Experience this summer at The Westin Calgary. The Family Getaway experience was perfect for our family of 4. It included 2 connecting rooms with a themed kids room (toys provided by the hotel included games and a play tent to use during your stay). Our room was a suite with a nice sitting area for our family. It connected to our kids room with a door that could be closed for sleeping. Parking was included in our stay as well as a build your own Caesar kit that was delivered to our door.
The Westin Calgary has a full service Starbucks as well as The Keg for dining within the hotel. We enjoyed the convenience of them both and had a great dinner at The Keg with the kids! A kids menu is offered at The Keg as well.
Our weekend getaway was comfortable and relaxing at The Westin Calgary. I love their heavenly beds and always have the best sleep in them! They stocked our room with individual wipes for cleaning and amenities including toiletries and a candle in their signature scent. The room was clean and welcoming upon our arrival.
Our kids LOVED having their own room. At 9 and 12 they are getting older and enjoy having some time away from mom and dad. We enjoyed some quiet time and a place to sit at the end of a busy day while we watched tv. Our suite included a king size bed, 2 couches, a large desk, and fridge which was great for our family to enjoy. The ensuite bathroom was spacious and even had a tv built into the mirror to watch while you get ready for the day.
Calgary is a great city to visit with kids! Only 2.5 hours from Edmonton, it’s a quick and easy road trip for the family. We love to explore downtown Calgary when we visit, there’s so much to see and do!
Some of our favourite things to do with the kids in downtown Calgary include:
- exploring the Instagrammable Walls through the downtown core
- Calgary Tower
- Central Library
- East Village including St. Patricks Island
- 17th ave for dining and shopping
- Village Ice Cream for a sweet treat
The Westin Calgary downtown is in a great location, we are able to walk to many of these destinations with the kids. It’s also right around the corner from Eau Claire Market and beautiful walking trails along the river. There are lots of restaurants in the area that are also walking distance, we hardly used our vehicle during our visit!
