I am always on the go and don’t have time to do my hair most days. I’ve been struggling to get just the right look when it comes to the messy bun! There’s a lot of ways to style them and yet I can’t ever seem to get it right.
I’ve teamed up with my friends at MUD Studio to show you 3 options for your hair with the messy bun look!
I popped by to see Riana and asked her to walk me through three hairstyles that I could do myself at home. There was a lot more that went into the messy bun look then I thought there was! Perhaps that’s why I am not getting it right at home…..
Riana shared some great tips as well. If you have fine hair like me, you are going to want to back comb some sections to give it a bit more volume once its in the pony tail. Also adding curl to the hair before putting it up helped to achieve the look much quicker. Adding some product will help hold the style longer as well!
Look 1 – The Top Knot
I loved this style! The half up/half down look is not something I typically do on myself but the end result was my favourite.
It starts by sectioning off hair on the top with a small pony. From there, we curled the pieces within the pony tail to give it some more volume. The pieces were divided into 4 sections and each section was rolled down and bobby pinned into place.
Once the top knot was achieved, we curled the rest of the hair to finish off the style. This would take you approx. 25 min to achieve on your own.
Look 2 – The Proper Bun
The first step was to curl all the hair. After that the hair was brushed up into a high pony tail (you can place the pony tail anywhere you like on the head depending if you prefer a low or high bun).
The hair was sectioned into 4 within the pony tail and each section was rolled down and bobby pinned into place. From there, the hair was pulled over to make it more of a round look. This would take you approx. 20 min to achieve on your own including curl time.
Look 3 – The Messy Bun
I always see girls rocking this look and I wonder to myself how to they get that perfect looking messy bun? There was a trick to this one! When you are putting in the high pony tail, on the last elastic wind around you don’t pull the pony tail all the way through! From there you scrunch and pull and bobby pin the pieces to achieve the messy look. This would take you approx. 20 min to achieve on your own including curl time.
It was a great experience for me to be able to sit down and have Riana walk me through how to do each of these looks. I am looking forward to trying them out myself!
