Our family loves spending time together at The Rec Room! We were excited to hear the West Edmonton Mall location had recently reopened to the public and has implemented all necessary procedures to keep their staff and patrons safe. We headed there with the kids and wanted to share our experience with all of you.
The Rec Room is opening in phases to limit venue capacity and accommodate new safety protocols. At this time they are currently in Phase 1 in Alberta which includes the Games floor for entertainment and The Shed for snacks. They will update customers on social media when Phase 2 and Phase 3 are implemented, be sure to follow so you don’t miss the announcements! It’s important to note that not all games and entertainment are available at this time. There was still lots of games available to keep us entertained during our visit!
Playin’ It Safe
The Rec Room is Keeping You Safe with many safety measures in place when you visit. These include:
Physical Distancing
- limited venue capacity
- limited table seating
- signage to remind you to remain 2 metres apart
- directional arrows on the floor
- games have been spread out to allow more distance between patrons
- staff is on hand to help where needed
- enter and exit through their mall entrance doors only
Enhanced Cleaning Protocols
- wiping down point of sale terminals, tables, and high traffic areas
- using industrial-quality cleaning products
- hand sanitizer stations throughout the venue
- wipes throughout the venue to clean the games after use
Contactless Payment
- they are accepting debit, credit card, mobile pay and gift card payments at this time
- cash will only be accepted at the mall entrance door and will be converted to a gift card to use at the venue
- the ATM is not available
We spent our time playing games with the kids and felt the staff and the venue did a great job of keeping things clean and helping us feel safe. All staff members we interacted with at the door and on the Games floor were wearing masks. They encourage you to wear them as well during your visit but it is not mandatory (our time was spent in a games area that will be opening in Phase 2. Because we were on the second floor and away from the general public we removed our masks for photos).
We sanitized our hands throughout our visit and used the wipes provided to clean the games when we finished using them. All the games on the floor are also frequently sanitized by staff members.
For a limited time only SCENE Members can enjoy 1 hour of games for FREE! Just show your SCENE card and get a game band for one hour free play. . Please note the bands must used on the same day you pick them up and cannot be combined with any other offers.
Family Fun Entertainment
We love The Rec Room because of the variety of games to keep both adults and our kids entertained. From nostalgic pin ball to driving games, they have something for every age! We also spent some time playing ping pong and pool with the kids. It was a great opportunity for Denny to teach our daughter how to play pool and she loved spending the time with her daddy.
The washrooms are open for you to use the facilities and wash your hands. After playing the games we took the kids to all do some hand washing before we headed home. They washrooms were very clean and equipped with automatic soap pumps and faucets so you don’t have to touch anything!
The Shed is also open in Phase 1 and offers food and drink options while visiting The Rec Room. You are able to access their menu on your phone by scanning a QR code. All the kitchen staff are wearing masks and frequently washing hands as well as wearing gloves while preparing your food. They have opened an extra area for seating that has been distanced for your safety. We enjoyed some of their famous popcorn and drinks during our visit. The kids were so excited to be able to have movie theatre popcorn again after months of not being able to get any!
We had a great time with the kids and cant wait to visit again soon. With the school break starting, its a great way to beat the heat and keep the kids entertained this summer! Want to learn more? Visit TheRecRoom.com/HealthAndSafety
