I can’t believe our baby is turning 8 this summer, where does the time go? Because her birthday is August 3rd we celebrate early every year before summer holidays. This year we partnered with The Rec Room at West Edmonton Mall for a rainbow birthday party celebration! The Rec Room is located in West Edmonton Mall just off 87th avenue. You can access it from the outside by taking the ramp up that leads to the skating rink. From there you will see a secondary ramp and new parking deck with access to The Rec Room. If you are walking through West Edmonton Mall it is located in phase 1 down the Winners/Homesense wing on the upper level.
We went with a retro rainbow theme for the party. June is a great month for finding rainbow merchandise in stores so there was lots of options out there! I always have so much fun working with a theme for a kids birthday party and I know I don’t have many years left before they are too old for a theme!
All the Little Details
Decorations – We found the rainbow decorations at Winners and Homesense. The collection we found had rainbow shaped plates, rainbow napkins, rainbow cups a rainbow candle and rainbow loot bags from the brand Meri Meri. We kept the theme of the loot bags rainbow as well with rainbow treats inside. It brought a bright and colourful vibe to the party!
Food – The Rec Room has a full service restaurant which has great options for kids including pizza and kids meals! Our party was in a private room and we had a waiter that was amazingly attentive. We went with a variety of pizzas for the girls and had pitchers of drinks available for them as well. They also have popcorn which was perfect for the kids to snack on between playing games!
Cake – We always celebrate with Crave cakes, they are our favourite! We went with a rainbow confetti cake for the party and they were able to use primary coloured sprinkles to match the party colours. Quinn absolutely loved her cake!
Balloons – Balloon Source is our go to for balloons. We love that they are a local company AND that they deliver the balloons right to your door. I sent them a picture of the party supplies and they were able to match the balloons to our theme. Quinn loved the rainbow colours, they were perfect for her party!
Games – The Rec Room offers hours of entertainment for adults and kids with their huge gaming area! We loaded up bracelets for the kids with $20 of credits which lasted them an hour on average. The girls went together and played everything from carnival style games to retro classics. Many of them are redemption games that allow you to win credits which can then be redeemed for prizes at the Trophy Case.
They also have claw machines on the game floor which guarantees you get a prize with every play. Some of the girls chose to play for instant prizes and some decided to rack up their points to redeem for prizes on their way out. Either way all the kids were really excited that they all won something!
We spent 2 hours at the Rec Room with all the kids which was the perfect amount of time. The kids were able to play all the games they wanted, stop for pizza and drinks, head back for more games, enjoy some cake and redeem for prizes before they were picked up. The private room was an added bonus as they had tv’s with cartoons playing for the kids in the area as well!
Thank you to The Rec Room for partnering with us for this birthday party experience. Views expressed are our own based on our personal experience. Our family loves the Rec Room and we often take our children for fun!
